The Last Spartan Survival — an honest story about a game that owns your evening
Sometimes the simplest-looking game hooks you harder than a blockbuster. This is exactly that case: the rules take a minute to learn, and putting it down is much harder.

What this game is
The Last Spartan is an arcade side-scrolling survival hack-and-slash built for the 2020 js13kGames competition (theme "404"). You are Leonid, the last hoplite of your battalion, holding the field of battle in ancient Sparta, 404 B.C. No retreat, no surrender, no way out alive — you can only go down swinging. Endless waves of Athenians and giants across thousands of procedurally generated battlefields; the goal is to fell as many enemies as possible and last as long as you can. A fully hand-written 2D engine: point-mass physics with cloth constraints for lifelike bodies and ragdolls, steering-behaviour enemy AI (seek/flee/wander/flock), procedural sprites, font and music, and ZzFX-synthesized sound — not a single external asset, everything is computed by code. Controls: WASD to move, J or left mouse to attack, K or right mouse to block, Space to jump; combo moves "Spartan Charge" (block+attack) and "Ground Pound" (jump+attack) stun enemies, P pauses. On touch devices there is an on-screen movement d-pad and Attack / Block / Jump buttons, combos via holding two buttons at once. Your score is the kill count.
