Queens: Logic Puzzle with Non-Attacking Queens

The classic N-Queens problem gets a modern graphical interpretation. The goal is to place N queens on an N×N board so that no queen attacks another.

Why This Game Is Addictive

Unlike chess, there's no opponent — just you and pure logic. Every move requires considering multiple constraints simultaneously: row, column, diagonal, and colored region. This turns a seemingly simple task into a real puzzle challenge.

Getting Started

Start with a 6×6 board — it's easier to spot patterns. Pay attention to colored regions: if a region consists of just one cell, it must contain a queen. This is your starting point for a chain of deductions.

Tips for Solving

  • Use markers (×) for cells where a queen definitely can't go
  • Start with the smallest regions — they provide the most information
  • Watch the diagonals: two queens on the same diagonal create a conflict
  • Use the hint if you're stuck — it shows the correct position of one queen

Interesting Facts

The eight queens puzzle was first proposed in 1848 by German chess player Max Bezzel. Since then, it has become one of the most studied combinatorial problems in mathematics.
