Last Beacon: power-grid tower defense in the browser

Last Beacon is a tower defense where power is as critical a resource as firepower. Every turret must be connected to the electrical grid flowing from the beacon — no connection, no fire.

What the game is

You play as the keeper of the last lighthouse on a fog-shrouded island. Ten waves of mechanical enemies surge through an isometric battlefield. You build defenses, but each structure draws power: the grid starts at capacity 12 and can be expanded four times.

The power system

Power flows from the beacon through transmission lines. Standard connections reach 3 tiles, relays reach 4.8. When capacity runs out, later-built structures go offline. This makes construction order and relay placement everything.

Towers

  • Sentinel — rapid single-target fire on the leading enemy
  • Mortar — area damage around the impact point
  • Frost — slows enemies, buying time for other towers
  • Relay — extends the grid without consuming power

Each tower has three upgrade levels. Selling refunds 70% of parts spent.

Beacon overdrive

During enemy waves, you can trigger overdrive: powered towers gain 80% fire rate for 6 seconds, with a 35-second cooldown. This saves you in critical moments when enemies break through.

Technology

Plain JavaScript, Canvas 2D, Web Audio API. No external libraries. Graphics are procedurally drawn, audio is synthesized at runtime.

The game was created with GPT-6 Astra and released under CC0.
