Evolution: Colony — ecosystem simulator with genetic drift
A 2D simulation in your browser. Grass grows, herbivores graze, predators hunt. Every agent carries a genome: speed, size, vision, metabolism, aggression. Offspring inherit genes with small mutations. Some lineages die out, some flourish, some split into a new ecological niche.

What to watch
- the green layer rises and falls in waves; a peak often follows a herbivore boom, a crash follows a predator spike
- a fast, timid herbivore line may persist at the edge of the map while a slow, hungry one collapses mid-field
- mutations occasionally create a leap — a new vision radius, a more efficient metabolism — and the population graph bends
How to participate
You don't play the agents. You play the world. 'Seed grass' drops a rich patch. 'Cold snap' shrinks metabolism. 'Pause' freezes time so you can study who is who. Numbers at the bottom — grass, herbivores, predators, total generations — tell the story in raw form.
