Iron Ascension — an honest story about a game that owns your evening

Sometimes the simplest-looking game hooks you harder than a blockbuster. This is exactly that case: the rules take a minute to learn, and putting it down is much harder.

What this game is

Iron Ascension — a dark-fantasy deckbuilding roguelike in the spirit of Slay the Spire, built from a single HTML file: no images, webfonts, sound files or bundlers. You are a lone Iron Knight climbing the 15-floor Steel Tower to slay the Void Sovereign and lift the curse.

How to play, in short

A full run is 15 floors ending in a multi-phase boss. There is automatic saving (close the game mid-fight and pick up exactly where you left off), five “Ascension” difficulty tiers that unlock as you beat the boss, and a built-in auto-pilot bot that clears the tower on its own — handy for spectating.

Mouse/touch controls: tap cards, targets and map nodes, “End turn” on the right, autopilot/sound/deck buttons on top. On phones everything is a large tap target, so no on-screen d-pad is needed. The top-right chrome adds language (RU/EN), pause and fullscreen. The game is fully localised — the original Korean card, relic, enemy, event and menu labels are re-rendered in Russian/English.

A few final tips

  • Check out the demo mode on the game page — the AI shows how it is played, and repeating it yourself gets much easier.
  • Play in short sessions: the best results come with a warmed-up head.

Simple on the surface, deep underneath — exactly the kind of game that never ages. Ready to try? "Iron Ascension"
